M 7.7 Earthquake in NTT Shakes Makassar Strongly

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) at 04:58 WIB. The tremors were felt as far as Makassar, South Sulawesi.

A Makassar resident named Tila reported that the shaking from the NTT earthquake was very strong in the city, noting that the duration felt prolonged. "I just felt the earthquake in Makassar, it lasted two minutes," Tila said.

In addition to Makassar, the NTT earthquake was also felt strongly in the Selayar Islands Regency. A resident of Rajuni Island, Fatmawati, described the experience. "It felt strong earlier at 06:04 WITA. I was reciting the Koran and felt it very strongly upstairs, so I ran down," Fatmawati said. "It felt very strong. I thought I was the only one who felt it, so I ran downstairs to check on the neighbours, and they felt it too," she added.
