M 6.7 Earthquake Shakes Palu, No Tsunami Threat
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 occurred in Palu, Central Sulawesi. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated the earthquake has no tsunami potential.
“No tsunami potential,” BMKG wrote on its official X account, Tuesday (16/6/2026).
The earthquake occurred at 10.27 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The epicentre was located at coordinates 1.04 South Latitude and 120.23 East Longitude.
“42 km southeast of Palu, Central Sulawesi. Depth of 10 km,” BMKG wrote.
There is no information yet on damage resulting from this earthquake. BMKG warned that aftershocks could potentially occur.
“Be cautious of possible aftershocks,” BMKG wrote on its website.
