M 6.7 Earthquake in Central Sulawesi Causes Damage and Injuries, BNPB Releases Data

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is continuing to monitor and coordinate the response to the impact of a magnitude 6.7 earthquake that shook Central Sulawesi Province on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, at 10.27 WIB or 11.27 WITA. The earthquake caused injuries, damage to homes, public facilities, places of worship, as well as road and bridge infrastructure in Palu City and the regencies of Sigi, Poso, Donggala, and Parigi Moutong.

“Preliminary data indicates at least 45 families (KK) or 109 individuals have been affected. In addition, 24 residents suffered minor injuries and eight residents sustained serious injuries. All of this data is still being verified and updated by officers in the field,” said Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Centre, in a written statement on Tuesday, 16 June 2026.

Sigi Regency became the area with the highest number of affected residents, with around 24 families or 69 individuals. In this area, 21 residents suffered minor injuries and eight sustained serious injuries. Meanwhile, Parigi Moutong Regency reported approximately 21 families or 40 individuals affected. In Palu City, two residents suffered minor injuries, while Poso Regency reported one injured resident, with further data collection still underway.

In addition to causing casualties and affecting residents, the earthquake also caused damage to residential homes and various facilities and infrastructure in several areas. The affected areas include Palu City, Donggala Regency, Sigi Regency, Parigi Moutong Regency, and Poso Regency. In Parigi Moutong Regency, affected locations include Tolai Village in Torue District and Boyan Tongo Village in South Parigi District. Meanwhile, in Poso Regency, impacts were reported in Tumora Village, North Poso Pesisir District.

Preliminary data recorded at least 64 housing units affected, including four units with minor damage. Damage also occurred to four places of worship, four public facilities, two bridges, two office buildings, one business premises, and one provincial road connecting Palu-Sigi-Poso which collapsed. The damage is spread across several areas with varying degrees of impact. In Sigi Regency, approximately 44 housing units were affected, one unit suffered minor damage, four places of worship were affected, two office buildings were affected, one building was affected, and one bridge was damaged.
