An earthquake measuring magnitude 6.2 struck Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi. Tremors from the quake were felt in Palu and Gorontalo.

“Felt (MMI) IV Tinombo, IV Palasa, III-IV Tomini, III-IV Kasimbar, III-IV Kotaraya, III Palu, III Pohuwato, III Gorontalo Regency, III Gorontalo City, III North Bolaang Mongondow, II-III Biduk-Biduk,” wrote the BMKG account.

In the BMKG modelling, category III means vibrations are clearly felt inside houses, as if a lorry were passing by. Meanwhile, MMI IV means that during the day it is felt by many people indoors and by some outdoors, pottery breaks, windows and doors creak, and walls make sounds.

The earthquake that shook Parigi Moutong occurred on Saturday at 11.25 pm. The quake was at a depth of 44 km.

The earthquake was detected at 0.25 degrees North latitude and 120.22 degrees East longitude. The impact of the earthquake is not yet known.
