M 6.2 Earthquake Strikes Southwest Maluku, No Tsunami Potential

A magnitude (M) 6.2 earthquake shook Southwest Maluku, Maluku. The epicentre was located approximately 166 kilometres northeast of Southwest Maluku.

“Depth: 143 km,” wrote BMKG on its X account, Friday (11/9/2026).

The earthquake occurred at 18:56 WIB, with coordinates at 7.44 South Latitude and 129.11 East Longitude.

BMKG noted that the initial earthquake information prioritises speed, therefore the data processing results are not yet stable and may change as more complete data becomes available.

“No tsunami potential,” the agency continued.
