M 4 Earthquake Shakes Tanimbar, Maluku

An earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 4.0 occurred in Tanimbar, Maluku. The quake was centred at sea.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the earthquake occurred on Tuesday (15/9/2026) at 05.43 WIB, at a depth of 197 kilometres.

“281 km north-west of Tanimbar,” @infoBMKG wrote.

The quake’s coordinates were recorded at 5.87 degrees southern latitude (LS) and 129.9 degrees eastern longitude (BT). There is so far no information regarding any impact from the earthquake.

“This information prioritises speed, so the results of data processing are not yet final and may change as data becomes more complete,” BMKG added.
