M 4.3 Earthquake Hits Cianjur, Felt in Jakarta, Bandung, and Bogor

The BMKG has reported a magnitude 4.3 earthquake occurring in Cianjur Regency at 17:53 WIB. In its official X account, the BMKG stated that public information prioritises speed, meaning the magnitude data may change once a complete analysis is available.

The earthquake was reported at coordinates 6.93 LS - 107.10 BT, located 13 kilometres from Cianjur Regency, West Java. The earthquake depth was recorded at 5 km, classifying it as a shallow earthquake.

According to monitoring by CNBC Indonesia on X, many netizens reported feeling the earthquake in various locations such as Jakarta, Bandung, and Bogor.

“It was felt in South Jakarta,” said one netizen.

“In Cigombong, Bogor Regency, the earthquake was very noticeable, like someone slamming a door, which was startling,” another netizen remarked.

There has been no in-depth explanation from the BMKG regarding this earthquake incident. On its official website, the BMKG update only noted that the earthquake was felt in Cianjur at a scale of III-IV, Sukabumi City at II-III, Cibadak at II-III, Nagrak at II-III, Warung Kondang at II-III, and Cibubur at II.
