SINGAPORE (AP): Lycos Asia and Singapore Telecommunications on
Wednesday announced the formation of the Indonesian-language Web
portal Lycos Indonesia.

The new portal site is "dedicated to Internet users in
Indonesia and individuals with a special interest in the
country," Lycos Asia said in a statement, adding that the site is
written in Bahasa Indonesia.

Lycos Asia is a $50 million joint venture between U.S.-based
Lycos Inc. and Singapore Telecommunications.

The Indonesian site will carry services such as local
directories and city guides, and information on fashion, finance,
job opportunities, travel and other topics, the statement said.

With its site in Indonesia, Lycos Asia now tailors sites for
eight Asian countries. The company plans to launch another portal
site in Thailand by the end of this year.

Lycos Inc. is based in Waltham, Massachusetts, while Lycos
Asia has its headquarters in Singapore.
