The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) believes that the destruction of luxury houses within the Cibinong Prison complex is a systematic effort to erase traces of corrupt practices between officials and inmates. MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman asserted that the demolition is nothing more than an attempt to eliminate evidence.

“The destruction is clearly nonsensical. It is a wrong action. Those luxury buildings discovered by the Ombudsman are pieces of evidence. Destroying them is called destroying evidence,” Boyamin told Republika on Wednesday (30/09/2026).

According to Boyamin, recent explanations from prison officials during a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR) revealed that the luxury buildings within the Cibinong Prison complex were constructed using non-state funds. Consequently, Boyamin suggests there are allegations of corruption in the construction of these luxury houses.

“Those buildings were not constructed using the State Budget (APBN). This means there is suspected gratification in their construction. At the very least, there are illegal levies involved,” said Boylamin.

Furthermore, Boyamin noted that information suggests these luxury houses within the prison complex were built by inmates involved in specific cases. These luxury buildings, which feature facilities comparable to apartments, were reportedly rented out to wealthy inmates.

“It is clear that by destroying them, they are essentially destroying evidence,” said Boyamin.

MAKI is urging law enforcement agencies to conduct a full investigation and probe into the management scandal at the Cibinong Prison. Boyamin also expressed his belief that similar scandals may be occurring in other prisons.
