Luwu Utara Police Detainee Hospitalised, Alleged Abuse Investigated
A detainee at the Luwu Utara Police Station in South Sulawesi has been hospitalised following suspected abuse by officers. The Professionalism and Security Division (Propam) of the Luwu Utara Police has launched an investigation into the alleged assault. The detainee, identified by the initials CSTA, 21, was a suspect in a criminal assault case being handled by the police. Luwu Utara Police Chief AKBP Nugraha Pamungkas confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that every detainee has the right to healthcare and that all treatment processes are being carried out optimally while prioritising humanitarian aspects. The alleged violence occurred on Friday, 24 July, while the detainee was in custody for the ongoing case. Nugraha assured that the examination of the officers involved would proceed according to established mechanisms. The suspected perpetrator, a unit head of the Women and Children Protection division with the rank of Police Inspector Second Class, has been removed from his position and is being investigated by Propam. Police spokesperson AKP Sapri confirmed the deactivation and said several witnesses have been summoned for questioning. He added that the investigation will continue to uncover the chronology and motive, and that strict sanctions will be imposed if the allegations are proven.
