Luwu Regency focuses on developing various superior cocoa clones
Makassar (ANTARA) - The Luwu Regency government in South Sulawesi is focusing on developing various superior cocoa clones as an effort to increase production and the local economy. Patahudding, in his statement in Makassar on Sunday, said that several superior cocoa clones have been developed in Luwu Regency, including the ICCRI, Buntu Batu (BB), 45, and Sulawesi 2 (S2) clones, which are certified. He also invited other regions in need of superior cocoa seeds to use Luwu Regency as a seed source, given that the quality and legality are guaranteed. The inspection was carried out at the gardens owned by residents H. Malle and H. Rahman, who have seed source certification from Puslitkoka. This certification serves as a guarantee of the quality of the cocoa seedlings produced to support the development of the region’s flagship commodity. Furthermore, he conveyed that aid in the form of cocoa seedlings from the central government totals 8 million trees allocated for Luwu Regency, sourced from these certified gardens. He hopes that all extension workers and stakeholders can actively participate in assisting the community so that the programme truly provides real benefits to farmers.
