Lunar New Year Trinket Vendors on Jalan Pancoran Raya Vacate Their Stalls
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The majority of Lunar New Year trinket vendors on Jalan Pancoran Raya, Glodok, Tamansari, West Jakarta, began vacating their locations by Tuesday afternoon.
Observations at the site showed that on the very day of Lunar New Year, only one stall remained selling various Lunar New Year trinkets in the Chinatown district.
The pavements of Jalan Pancoran Raya, previously packed with vendors’ tents, now appeared clear for pedestrians.
Nevertheless, food hawkers continued to trade on the pavements. Traffic along Jalan Pancoran Raya was observed to be busy but flowing smoothly.
Meanwhile, a different scene unfolded in the Petak Sembilan area, home to several Chinese temples and viharas.
The busiest location was Vihara Dharma Bhakti, which continued to receive a steady stream of worshippers marking the Lunar New Year.
The crowds were also accompanied by the presence of Persons in Need of Social Welfare (PPKS), who sat around the vihara hoping to receive red envelopes (angpao) from visiting worshippers.
They brought children and even infants in the hope of receiving angpao.
The PPKS children were also seen playing around the vihara grounds. The situation left security officers struggling to maintain order among the PPKS at the location.
