Lunar New Year: South Jakarta Police Secure Temples to Ensure Safe Worship
The South Jakarta Metropolitan Police conducted coordinated security operations alongside relevant stakeholders to safeguard worshippers celebrating the Lunar New Year. Security measures were focused on two Buddhist temples in South Jakarta.
“Coordinated security operations involving relevant stakeholders were carried out to ensure that all worship activities and public celebrations proceeded safely, in an orderly manner, and without disruption,” said Head of Operations at the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Tribuana Roseno, on Monday (16/2/2026).
The security operations were carried out in synergy with the Indonesian military (TNI), the South Jakarta Municipal Government, the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), the Transportation Agency (Dishub), and other relevant agencies. This cross-sector collaboration represented a joint commitment to providing a sense of safety and comfort to the community celebrating the Lunar New Year.
The two temples that were the focus of security operations were the Bio Hok Tek Tjen Sin Temple on Jalan Topekong, Grogol Selatan, Kebayoran Lama, and the Amurva Bhumi Temple (Hok Tek Tjeng Sin - Karet) on Jalan Dr. Satrio No. 2 RT 03 RW 04, Karet Semanggi, Setiabudi.
Prior to worship services, both places of worship had been swept and cleared by the bomb disposal unit of the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.
At both locations, joint personnel carried out overt and covert security measures, traffic management, sterilisation of worship areas, and dialogue patrols to anticipate potential security disturbances. The Transportation Agency conducted traffic engineering and parking management, whilst the Civil Service Police Unit assisted with public order enforcement around the event locations.
“In addition to securing worship at the temples, the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police also conducted patrols and monitoring of various community activities. The presence of joint security forces amongst the public serves as a form of preventive service as well as an early detection effort against potential security threats,” he said.
The South Jakarta Metropolitan Police affirmed that the security operation was part of the National Police’s commitment to maintaining tolerance and inter-religious harmony, as well as ensuring that every citizen can carry out worship and celebrate religious occasions safely and solemnly.
Tribuana stated that the Lunar New Year celebrations across the South Jakarta area proceeded safely, in an orderly fashion, and without disruption, thanks to the synergy of all security elements and the active participation of the community in maintaining local security.
