Lumajang Government Urges Public to Use Subsidised Fuel According to Designation
The Lumajang Regency Government in East Java is urging the public to use subsidised fuel oil (BBM) in accordance with its designation and applicable regulations to maintain the sustainability of energy distribution for the groups entitled to receive benefits. The efficient targeting of subsidised fuel use is an important factor in supporting the effectiveness of the energy policies established by the government, said Aksanul Inam, Acting Head of the Economy and Natural Resources Division of the Lumajang Regional Secretariat. The call was made following the results of fuel distribution monitoring conducted by the regional government along with several related parties in the Lumajang Regency area. According to him, subsidised fuel is fundamentally an instrument designed to assist specific groups in society in accordance with applicable provisions. “We are inviting the public to use fuel according to its designation and to follow the applicable rules, so that distribution can proceed in an orderly manner and the benefits can be felt by those who are truly entitled,” he stated. Aksan explained that public awareness in using fuel according to regulations will help maintain smooth distribution while supporting the creation of better energy governance. Besides being the responsibility of the government and energy service providers, the success of fuel distribution also requires public participation in utilising energy wisely and according to need. He noted that a good understanding of the function and targets of subsidised fuel will help strengthen public energy literacy and support the creation of more orderly distribution. “Through this collective awareness, the Lumajang Regency Government hopes that the benefits of the energy subsidy policy can be felt optimally while supporting more equitable energy services for the community,” he said. Field observations revealed that some residents who typically use the non-subsidised fuel Pertamax are now switching to the subsidised fuel type Pertalite after Pertamina adjusted the price of Pertamax.
