Lumajang Disaster Management Agency Responds to Semeru River Flooding Affecting 300 Households

Lumajang, East Java (ANTARA) - The Lumajang Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has moved quickly to address flooding caused by overflowing water from the slopes of Mount Semeru, which inundated homes belonging to 300 families in Kutorenon village, Lumajang Regency, East Java, early Friday morning.

“The flood occurred due to the high water discharge from the slopes of Mount Semeru after heavy rain hit the Senduro, Gucialit and Pasrujambe sub-districts since Thursday (May 14) night,” said the Head of the Lumajang Regency BPBD, Isnugroho, in Lumajang, Friday.

“The team was immediately deployed after receiving reports of the incident to ensure the safety of affected residents. Since early morning, all personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of residents, carry out evacuations, and distribute basic necessities,” he said.

He said that the BPBD, together with the TNI, Polri, volunteers, village officials, and related elements, conducted field assessments, evacuated residents, and distributed emergency logistical assistance to flood victims.

“Officers also helped move household goods and livestock belonging to residents to minimize losses,” he said.

Preliminary data records that around 300 families were affected in Dusun Biting RW 08, 09, and 10. Flooding also occurred in Dusun Krajan II and Dusun Sekarputih, Sumberejo village, with water levels reaching 1.2 meters in several locations.

Four residents who experienced health problems have been evacuated to the Sukodono Health Center for medical treatment.

“In addition, the BPBD distributed initial assistance in the form of ready-to-eat food, canned food, and additional nutritional supplements for affected residents,” he said.

He explained that the rapid response was part of the Lumajang Regency Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of the community during emergencies and accelerating recovery in disaster-affected areas.
