Lululemon Bags Stolen by Airport Cargo Staff, Losses Exceed IDR 1 Billion
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Criminal Investigation Unit has uncovered a syndicate responsible for stealing Lululemon branded bags, with losses exceeding IDR 1 billion. One of the suspects is an airport cargo staff member.
“The thefts occurred over a period of two years. As a result, the exporting company PT Pungkook Indonesia One suffered losses of more than IDR 1 billion,” said Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Chief Kombes Wisnu Wardana, as quoted by Detik.com, Friday (15/5/2026).
The case was revealed through report No. LP/B/48/IV/2026/SPKT/Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police/Metro Jaya Police dated April 27, 2026, regarding the crime of theft and/or receiving stolen goods.
The victim, PT Pungkook Indonesia One, shipped 4,749 Lululemon branded bags to Shanghai, China. The goods were shipped on Friday (April 10, 2026) from Grobogan, Central Java, where the company is based, and arrived on Monday (April 13, 2026) at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
The shipment to China was made the following day, Tuesday (April 14, 2026), using Garuda Indonesia cargo on flight GA 0894 on the Jakarta-Shanghai route.
However, upon reaching the buyer, PT Pungkook received notification on April 20, 2026, that 108 bags were missing. The losses due to this amounted to at least IDR 213 million.
An investigation was then conducted with CCTV footage from the RA BST area and the Soewarna Warehouse. It was found that 40 cartons containing 512 bags were deliberately set aside during the X-Ray inspection.
One of the suspects is R, alias K, who is the mastermind and works as an export operations team member at Soekarno-Hatta Airport Cargo. He, along with two other suspects, A and F, were arrested in the Karawaci area, Tangerang, on Wednesday (April 29, 2026).
Suspect F is said to have been the one who separated the 40 cartons from the inspection and put them in a box truck. Meanwhile, A helped with the theft.
It turned out that the stolen bags were sold for a cheap price of IDR 300 million to a fence. The proceeds from the sale reached IDR 24 million.
“Based on the results of the examination, 80 of the stolen bags were sold to a fence with the initials BO at a price of IDR 300,000 per bag. The total proceeds from the sale reached IDR 24 million,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, Kompol Yandri Mono.
From the investigation, it was discovered that the suspects had committed several thefts of bags between 2024 and 2026. The perpetrators admitted to committing three large-scale thefts.
“But there have been many smaller thefts that were never reported,” said Yandri.
The police secured various pieces of evidence, including export shipping documents, CCTV footage, data from the Garuda Indonesia GA 0894 flight manifest, documents from the weighing of goods, a Toyota Avanza belonging to suspect RR, and an Isuzu box truck used to transport the stolen goods.
The three suspects are charged with Article 477 of the Criminal Code, paragraph g, regarding the crime of theft committed together or in collusion, with a maximum penalty of imprisonment.
