Luhut Reveals MSCI Message to OJK Head
The Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, has disclosed details from a meeting with representatives from the global index provider, MSCI. The key messages from this meeting were subsequently conveyed to the Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners.
Luhut was observed meeting with the leadership of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) on Monday, 18 May 2026. The meeting addressed developments in the capital market and the Indonesian economy. In a recent update on his official Instagram account, Luhut recounted the visit from the MSCI team, noting their significant optimism regarding the Indonesian capital market.
“A short while ago, when the MSCI team came to meet me, they expressed how great the expectations are for the Indonesian capital market. This serves as evidence that our potential is extraordinarily large; therefore, we must not squander this golden momentum,” Luhut stated.
Luhut received the OJK delegation, which included the Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, the Executive Head of Insurance, Guarantee, and Pension Fund Supervision, Ogi Prastomiyono, and several deputy commissioners.
Luhut noted that the OJK has been assigned crucial additional responsibilities amidst current global uncertainty. Beyond maintaining financial sector stability, the OJK must ensure that confidence in the Indonesian economy remains robust. The discussions covered the dynamics of the Rupiah, financial market developments, and the current views of global investors towards Indonesia.
Luhut emphasised the need for capital market reforms, stating that while the OJK’s steps thus far have been appropriate, some global investors remain in a ‘wait and see’ mode regarding the consistency of implementation and its impact on market credibility. “The key to the capital market is only one: trust. And that trust is proven through stable policies and long-term legal certainty,” he said.
As a key driver of the Indonesian economy, the OJK must remain vigilant and agile in decision-making. Luhut stressed that while supporting government priority programmes is essential, improving governance and risk management is non-negotiable. He urged the OJK to proceed with confidence as long as they operate with integrity and compliance with regulations, noting that building national economic trust is a collective responsibility.
