Luhut Reveals AI's Role in Automatic Birth Certificate Issuance
The public is now increasingly facilitated as they no longer need to manage administrative population documents separately. The government has launched the Digitalisation of Birth Certificate Issuance through the integration of the Hospital/Community Health Centre Information System-SATUSEHAT-Population Administration Information System (SIAK) at the Pasar Minggu Community Health Centre in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/7/2026).
Through this inter-system integration, birth certificates can be issued automatically and sent online moments after a baby is born at a healthcare facility.
Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian explained that digital birth certificates can now be received directly through the healthcare facility where the birth takes place, whether a community health centre or a hospital. The document can also be sent via the parents’ email or WhatsApp number to be printed independently, thereby cutting off illegal levies.
“As soon as the baby is born, the birth certificate is immediately issued because the systems are connected. At the community health centre, for example, or the hospital, it is handed over directly on the spot. The digital version can be printed out immediately, and if the parents have an email, it can be sent to their email, or if they have WhatsApp, it can be sent to the parents’ WhatsApp and they can print it themselves,” he explained, as quoted on Wednesday (12/8/2026).
Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that this data integration will simplify the issuance of population documents for newborn children. This is because around 4.8 million babies are born in Indonesia each year, or about 13,000 babies every day.
“Therefore, birth registration needs to be integrated so that the baby’s population documents can be issued more quickly,” he said.
“Now birth data can be directly integrated with the Dukcapil data or SIAK. So that when a mother gives birth, her birth certificate, including her family card, can be issued digitally immediately,” he added.
Chairman of the Government Digital Transformation Acceleration Committee (KPTDP) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan explained that data integration and data-based planning are important for efficiency. According to him, the use of technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) to integrate data, makes the service process faster and more accurate.
“All the data speaks to each other, supported by AI, and AI cleanses all that data so it becomes integrated and the process becomes very fast,” he explained.
