Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The National Economic Council (DEN) presented President Prabowo Subianto with a series of recommendations and strategic assessments on global economic developments and measures to strengthen the national economy on Tuesday (21 October 2026). One topic was fuel policy.

DEN member and Executive Secretary Septian Hario Seto said the council had told President Prabowo that the government’s move to keep subsidised fuel prices stable was appropriate, particularly to protect people’s purchasing power.

The DEN also discussed several fiscal strategies for subsidised fuel that the government could pursue. The Ministry of Finance, supported by Danantara, would work to ensure fuel prices remained stable through the end of the year.

“The fiscal position must also remain sustainable. We also discussed some longer-term improvements that could make energy subsidies better targeted,” Seto said.

DEN chair Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan also commented on fuel shortages in several parts of Indonesia. He proposed developing an ecosystem to address the shortages and prevent them from happening again.

“There are indeed concerns. Perhaps we ourselves need to make improvements here and there,” Luhut said.
