Jakarta — National Economic Council Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has recalled the legacy of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, Try Sutrisno, during his tenure as Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD).

Luhut, whilst visiting Sutrisno’s residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, recounted how Sutrisno personally attended the formation of the Den-81 Unit of Kopassus, one of the Indonesian Army’s elite special forces units.

Luhut also remembered Sutrisno’s involvement in overseeing a joint military exercise that he conducted with British forces in the mountains. “The training exercise with the British forces took place whilst he was KSAD. Yes, he climbed the mountain. That is exemplary leadership. A four-star general who was still willing to climb mountains,” Luhut said.

According to Luhut, this demonstrated Sutrisno’s profound patriotism and high nationalism in carrying out his duties as KSAD. Luhut emphasised that these values should continue to be upheld by the younger generation of leaders.

“Resilience, honesty, patriotism. I believe these are the values that must be inherited by the younger generation,” said Luhut.

Sutrisno passed away at the Armed Forces Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta on Monday morning at approximately 07.00 Western Indonesian Time. The information regarding his death was conveyed through a chain message issued by his family and the Pancasila Ideological Development Board (BPIP), and was confirmed by several officials from the State Secretariat Ministry and the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres).

According to the statement, Sutrisno’s body will be washed at RSPAD before being transferred to the funeral home at Purwakarta Street Number 6, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
