President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to launch the national digital government transformation (GovTech) in October 2026, according to Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairman of the Government Digital Transformation Acceleration Committee. Luhut stated that the President will conduct the national launch in October, following a pilot project currently running in 43 districts and cities. The government expects to receive a report on the pilot project results by the end of July 2026. The President has directed that digital transformation be a priority government programme, with the system not only relying on the digitalisation of government services but also supported by artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Luhut noted that several regions, such as Surabaya, have shown good progress in implementing GovTech, prompting the government to consider expanding the pilot project to more districts and cities before the national launch. All software used in GovTech is developed by Indonesian talent, and the government is integrating around 27,000 applications previously scattered across various ministries and agencies into a single digital service ecosystem. Luhut emphasised that the government is not purchasing or importing software, which would incur high costs, but rather unifying existing applications. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian added that the expansion of the pilot project follows a trial in Banyuwangi that demonstrated tangible benefits, particularly in improving the targeting accuracy of social assistance distribution.
