Luhut: Prabowo Approves Establishment of Family Office for Foreign Investors in Bali
President Prabowo Subianto is reported to have approved the establishment of a family office within the International Financial Center (IFC) in Bali, according to National Economic Council (DEN) Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
Citing detikFinance, Luhut stated that the regulations for establishing family offices are being drafted by the House of Representatives (DPR) and are targeted for completion by 4 June 2026.
“The president also agreed to establish an international financial center and family office, and I believe the law on this will be passed by parliament on the 4th,” Luhut said at an ASEAN Regional Economic Outlook and Fiscal Policy event at his office in Central Jakarta on Monday, 25 May 2026.
Luhut said the operations of the family office will be assisted by a senior British figure, following a recommendation from Investment and Industrialization Minister, BKPM Chief, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Badan Pengelola Investasi (BPI) Daya Agata Nusantara (Danantara), Rosan Roeslani.
“We discussed this with Rosan last night; he informed me he has agreed and appointed a senior British figure to serve as an advisor or partner for the family office,” Luhut added.
According to Luhut, now is the ideal time for Indonesia to establish a family office and a financial special economic zone (SEZ), as global investors are seeking new locations to safeguard their assets worth trillions of dollars amid economic uncertainty from the Middle East conflict.
“A trillion dollars is currently in the Middle East; they are looking for suitable places to invest while ensuring safety,” Luhut said. “We don’t expect to receive US$100-200 billion overnight, but if they invest, they bring credibility and trust, which we need to improve Indonesia’s current situation.”
