Beijing (ANTARA) - The Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday (17/9) in Beijing, stating that Indonesia hopes to learn from China’s developmental successes.

“Indonesia hopes to learn from China’s successful experience in implementing its 15th Five-Year Plan and to strengthen cooperation with China in various new strategic industries, such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and digital finance,” said Luhut, according to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website accessed by ANTARA in Beijing on Thursday.

Previously, Luhut and Wang Yi met on 22 August 2026 in Jakarta when Wang Yi attended the first meeting of the Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD) and the 2nd meeting of the 2+2 Dialogue Mechanism between the foreign and defence ministers of Indonesia and China.

“Indonesia also wishes to strengthen cooperation in the fields of mining and human resource development, as well as exploring joint production, research and development, and innovation,” Luhette added in a written statement.

Luhut noted that Indonesia places great importance on its relationship with China, assessing that friendship and mutual trust between the two nations have become very closely established.

“China is Indonesia’s most reliable and long-term strategic partner in the national development process. Indonesia’s development is inseparable from China’s support and participation, and the friendship between our two nations is increasingly finding a place in the hearts of the Indonesian people,” Luhut stated.

Luhut emphasised that Indonesia is willing to work with China to translate the agreed comprehensive strategic partnership from the Jakarta meeting into more concrete cooperative results that can provide greater benefits for the people of both nations.

Meanwhile, Wang Yi noted that several bilateral meetings held between China and Indonesia have increased understanding and trust between the two parties.

“China and Indonesia are two large nations and representatives of emerging economies. Deepening strategic communication and strengthening strategic cooperation between our two countries is not only in line with the interests of our people but also has significant influence beyond bilateral relations,” said Wang Yi.

Wang Yi stated that China welcomes the accelerated development and rise of Indonesia and is willing to work with Indonesia to encourage the Global South to strengthen themselves collectively.

“China–Indonesia cooperation not only has a strong foundation but also shows new prospects. Both countries need to strengthen the alignment of development strategies and promote the transformation and enhancement of cooperation,” he added.

In addition to continuing traditional cooperation in energy, mineral resources, infrastructure, and industrial zones, Wang Yi mentioned that China is willing to develop cooperation in new fields, such as artificial intelligence, biopharmaceuticals, and information technology, while also increasing educational exchange and human resource development.

“President Prabowo’s decision for Indonesia to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation is a wise choice. China is willing to work with Indonesia to promote the development of artificial intelligence that is progress-oriented, beneficial, and inclusive,” Wang Yi added.

Wang Yi also stated that China is willing to assist Indonesia in increasing its independent development capacity and accelerating its modernisation process.

“China also hopes that Indonesia can create a conducive environment and provide strong policy support for the stable and sustainable development of Chinese companies in Indonesia,” Wang Yi emphasised.

Furthermore, Wang Yi expressed hope that Indonesia’s National Economic Council, under the leadership of Luhut, can continue to provide new contributions to the relationship between the two nations, particularly in promoting mutually beneficial cooperation.
