Luhut: Government Could Save Rp1,200 Trillion Through Digital Transformation

The government’s digital transformation is projected to generate savings of up to Rp1,200 trillion, according to Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairman of the National Economic Council. He stated that the integration of data across ministries and institutions, supported by artificial intelligence, will eliminate manual processes and human intervention, leaving only a supervisory role. “All the data talks to each other, supported by AI… and the process becomes very fast,” Luhut said during the launch of digital birth certificate integration at a community health centre in South Jakarta on Tuesday.

BPJS Kesehatan President Director Prihati Pujowaskito noted that the agency currently covers 285 million participants, or 98.6 percent of the population, but faces challenges with data accuracy. Approximately 54 million participants are inactive, and manual registration processes often lead to duplicate data and delays. He explained that duplicate records can affect contribution management, sometimes requiring the agency to return payments following audits by the Supreme Audit Agency.

The integration of the Health Ministry’s SATUSEHAT system with the Home Affairs Ministry’s SIAK system aims to resolve these issues. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the integration would be expanded to include the Social Affairs Ministry and BPJS Kesehatan to harmonise data, particularly for recipients of contribution assistance. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian added that the digital birth certificate service allows newborns to receive documentation on the same day, with certificates sent directly to health facilities or parents via WhatsApp and email, eliminating the need for parents to visit multiple offices.
