Luhut: Free Nutritious Meals Programme Is Good, But Management Needs Tidying Up
Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, has said that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme is a very good initiative. However, he noted that its management needs to be reorganised properly. This was conveyed by Luhut after meeting President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 9 June 2026. ‘I explained about the nutritious meals because this MBG programme is truly excellent. It is just that the management needs to be tidied up properly,’ Luhut said during a press conference. Luhut explained that DEN will assist the government so that the implementation of the MBG programme runs well. ‘The President has given his directives. We from the Economic Council will help to organise its implementation so it becomes much better than before,’ he said. During the meeting, Luhut also reported the results of a survey conducted by DEN regarding the MBG. The survey was carried out at 800 random locations across Indonesia. The survey showed positive results, with 86.9 per cent of Nutritional Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) having at least one small supplier. This demonstrates that the MBG programme not only meets nutritional improvement goals but also creates a new supply chain ecosystem.
