Luhut: Free Nutritious Meals Programme Is Good, But Management Needs Tidying Up

The Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, has stated that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme is an excellent initiative. However, he noted that its management must be restructured more effectively.

Luhut made these remarks after meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.

“I explained regarding the nutritious meals because the MBG is indeed a very good programme. It is just that the management needs to be neatly organised,” Luhut said during a press conference.

Luhut explained that the DEN will assist the government to ensure the implementation of the MBG programme proceeds smoothly.

“The President has provided direction. We will assist from the Economic Council to organise its implementation so that it becomes much better than before,” he added.

During the meeting, Luhut also reported the results of a survey conducted by the DEN regarding the MBG. The survey was carried out randomly across 800 points throughout Indonesia.

The survey showed positive results, indicating that 86.9 per cent of the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) have at least one small supplier. This demonstrates that, in addition to improving nutrition, the MBG programme is creating a new supply chain ecosystem.
