Lufthansa Cabin Crew Strike Disrupts Flights Across Germany
Prospective passengers monitored information boards dominated by flight cancellations as the UFO cabin crew union staged a strike at Frankfurt Airport, Germany, on Friday (10/4/2026), triggering operational disruptions for Lufthansa in Frankfurt and Munich and becoming the third action in the last two months. The strike ran from 01:01 to 22:00 local time and affected all Lufthansa departures from the main hubs. Cityline cabin crew also participated in the action at nine other airports in Germany, resulting in tens of thousands of passengers impacted by cancellations and delays according to airport operator Fraport. The UFO union stated that the industrial action was triggered by unresolved talks regarding working conditions for around 19,000 cabin crew and severance provisions for around 800 staff at Cityline, Lufthansa’s feeder airline that is halting its operations. “This is likely to be a difficult and prolonged dispute,” said Harry Jaeger, who is leading negotiations for UFO, indicating that tensions between the union and airline management will continue. Fraport reported around 580 flights cancelled at Frankfurt Airport, affecting about 72,000 passengers out of 1,350 scheduled flights and around 155,000 expected arrivals that day. These figures include all airlines operating at the airport and may change as the situation develops. Meanwhile, Jens Ritter from Lufthansa Airlines criticised the strike as an action that is “completely disproportionate” to the ongoing situation. Previously, strikes by Lufthansa cabin crew and pilots in February and March also caused widespread flight cancellations, prolonging the labour dispute at Germany’s largest airline.
