Lufthansa Boeing 787 Landing Gear Collapses at Frankfurt Airport, Several Staff Injured
An incident occurred at Frankfurt Airport in Germany when the nose landing gear of a Lufthansa Boeing 787 suddenly collapsed at the departure gate on Thursday (4/6/2026). The incident resulted in several staff members sustaining injuries and requiring medical treatment. Lufthansa stated the incident occurred before the boarding process had begun, so no passengers were on board at the time. According to the company, the cockpit crew and ground staff were inside the aircraft when the nose gear abruptly gave way. A Lufthansa spokesperson said, βThe passengers had not yet boarded the aircraft. A number of staff members sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment.β The aircraft involved is a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a wide-body, twin-engine jet used by Lufthansa for long-haul flights. Boeing confirmed it is aware of the incident and is providing support to its customer airline, though it did not provide additional details. Emergency vehicles surrounded the aircraft shortly after the event. The plane appeared in an abnormal position, with its front section lowered until part of the fuselage touched the apron surface. According to Lufthansa, the incident happened at 12.45 local time. The aircraft had been scheduled to fly to Los Angeles as flight LH450. As a result, the flight could not be operated as scheduled and the relevant authorities immediately commenced an inspection. Lufthansa stated the exact cause of the nose gear collapse is still under investigation, conducted jointly with the authorities. The airline currently operates the Boeing 787-9 variant, one of the most efficient in its fleet, as part of a fleet renewal programme aimed at simplifying its fleet and reducing long-term fuel consumption and operational costs.
