Lt Gen Yudi Abrimantyo Resigns: A Slap in the Face to Elites Who Love to Evade Responsibility
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The decision by Lt Gen Yudi Abrimantyo to resign as Head of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Kabais) of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has drawn public attention. At a time when many officials choose to hold on and hide behind various excuses, the responsible step taken by the Kopassus general represents a form of moral courage that is increasingly rare in Indonesia.
Pasbata General Chairman Prabowo David Febrian described Lt Gen Yudi’s resignation as a “harsh slap” to officials who have been embroiled in issues yet still try to retain their positions. He also appreciated the move by the 1989 Military Academy (Akmil) alumnus.
“This is not just a resignation. This is a chivalrous attitude. This is an open lesson for many officials who, when faced with problems, are busy seeking justifications, manipulating opinions, or even blaming others,” said David in a press release in Jakarta on Friday (27/3/2026).
According to him, Lt Gen Yudi demonstrated a different standard of leadership, that responsibility to the people must be placed above personal interests or positions, even before the legal process is complete.
“In this country, we too often see officials who are clearly problematic but still hold on, evade, and avoid. Lt Gen Yudi did the opposite. Whether right or wrong, let the law prove it, but responsibility to the public cannot be delayed,” said David.
According to David, the attitude of resigning is a form of true leadership that is beginning to erode due to pragmatic political practices. He even assessed that the chivalrous character of taking responsibility for subordinates’ mistakes is almost no longer the mainstream among elites.
“This is the type of leader that we rarely encounter anymore. Brave enough to take responsibility without being forced. This is not about pressure; this is about integrity,” he stated.
