JAKARTA - The Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) indicates that 92.7 percent of respondents claim to know Pancasila, with only a small portion admitting ignorance of it.

Nevertheless, LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan stated, “We asked whether you know Pancasila, either by reading or hearing about it? Now, this is unclear whether it’s good news or bad news. 92.7 percent of Indonesians from all walks of life feel they know or are familiar with Pancasila. So, if 92.7 is a grade in university, that’s an A,” said LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan in Cikini, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (12/4/2026).

The remaining 7.3 percent of respondents do not know Pancasila.

Additionally, the majority of respondents who claim to know Pancasila are also able to name all the principles.

However, another 5.3 percent could not name even one principle correctly.

“The majority of the public views all five principles in Pancasila as important for national and state life,” Djayadi emphasised.

From the population, researchers selected 2,020 respondents randomly using multistage random sampling methods.

The respondents were interviewed face-to-face by trained interviewers.

To maintain data quality, the team conducted random supervision of 20 percent of the sample through follow-up visits to respondents (spot checks).

The results found no significant errors in the interview process.

The survey took place from 4 March 2026 to 12 March 2026.
