JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) states that the majority of respondents in its survey feel satisfied with the current state of democracy in Indonesia.

The democracy satisfaction rate is a component of the survey “Evaluation and Public Commitment to Pancasila”, as presented by LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan in Cikini, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (12/4/2026).

Respondents were asked how satisfied they are with the progress of democracy in Indonesia so far. The options were very satisfied, quite satisfied, less satisfied, or not satisfied at all.

9.5 percent of respondents stated they are very satisfied. 60.3 percent stated they are quite satisfied.

“69.8 percent stated they are satisfied with the progress of democracy in Indonesia,” LSI wrote in its presentation.

The next question asked respondents how democratic the Indonesian state is.

12.3 percent of respondents said Indonesia is very democratic and 61.6 percent stated it is quite democratic.

“73.9 percent stated Indonesia is democratic,” LSI wrote.

20.1 percent of respondents stated that Indonesia is currently less democratic; 2.4 percent rated the country as not democratic at all; 3.5 percent stated they do not know or did not answer.

92 percent of respondents admitted they are satisfied with the freedom to practise religion, with details of 33 percent very satisfied and 59 percent quite satisfied.

Satisfaction is also high for the freedom to assemble or associate, reaching 83 percent (14 percent very satisfied and 69 percent quite satisfied).

Meanwhile, satisfaction with freedom of expression stands at 75 percent, as does freedom of the press and social media.

Satisfaction with guarantees of legal protection and equal treatment before the law reaches 70 percent.
