The Jakarta Provincial Government will inaugurate the LRT Jakarta Phase 1B (Velodrome-Manggarai) this month. However, there is still no certainty regarding the exact date for the inauguration of the public transport link connecting North Jakarta with South Jakarta.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that his administration is fully deferring the timing of the inauguration to the central government. This is because the new LRT Jakarta route is planned to be officially opened by President Prabowo Subianto.

‘As for the date, the Palace will naturally determine that later. Because I have officially requested that the honourable President Prabowo Subianto be willing and able to inaugurate the LRT from Kelapa Gading to Manggarai,’ he said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (11/8/2026).

Nevertheless, Pramono sincerely hopes the Jakarta LRT can be inaugurated this August. He noted that the construction was originally targeted for completion and operation within this month.

‘Hopefully it can be inaugurated within this August,’ he said.

Previously, Waskita Karya Director of Operations II Paulus Budi Kartiko confirmed the acceleration of the completion of the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B construction. Budi stated that the physical progress had reached 97.99 per cent.

In line with Pramono’s target, Paulus said Waskita is striving to ensure the project, owned by PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda), can be inaugurated in August. This would allow it to immediately operate and become a new backbone of public transport in the capital.

‘Overall, the Jakarta LRT work is nearing its end. The Waskita team in the field is currently focusing on reinstatement work, or restoring the work site to its original condition,’ Paulus said in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday (10/8/2026).

Paulus added that the rail connection work in the Double-Double Track (DDT) area is still ongoing. Meanwhile, the westbound track has been fully connected. The entrances at each station are also in the final stages of completion.

Ahead of the inauguration, Waskita, together with Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), is also routinely conducting a series of Test and Commissioning (T&C) for the railway system, including track testing along the 3.6-kilometre stretch, signalling, electrical systems, communications, and operational integration. The company is currently in the process of track testing and safety assessment.

Currently, the existing Jakarta LRT track length is 5.8 kilometres with six stations: Pegangsaan Dua, Boulevard Utara Summarecon Mall, Boulevard Selatan, Pulomas, Equestrian, and Velodrome. The track length will increase to 12.2 kilometres once the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B, which passes through Rawamangun, Pramuka, Kayu Manis, Matraman, and Manggarai stations, is inaugurated.
