LRT Velodrome-Dukuh Atas Expansion Deemed Effective in Easing Traffic Congestion

Transport expert Deddy Herlambang believes the LRT route extension from Velodrome to Dukuh Atas will boost public transport usage and reduce traffic congestion. He added that if the route passes through shopping centres, campuses, or schools, public interest in using it would likely increase. “Shifting to public transport would be highly effective if the LRT route passes through busy areas such as malls, markets, offices, schools, or universities. When the public uses public transport, private vehicle usage would automatically decrease,” Deddy said when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.

However, he expressed disappointment with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s decision to prioritise building the Velodrome-Manggarai to Dukuh Atas LRT route. According to Deddy, land in the Dukuh Atas area is extremely limited, raising concerns that constructing an LRT station there could worsen surrounding conditions. He suggested the provincial government should prioritise building LRT lines in residential areas first, making public transport more accessible to the public. After completing this phase, the DKI Jakarta government could then extend the route to Dukuh Atas.

However, Pramono has not specified the construction timeline. If completed, the total route length would reach 14.2 kilometres. He also mentioned that the budget or investment for the Velodrome-Dukuh Atas LRT project would be increased to Rp2.7 trillion.
