Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has assured that safety aspects are the top priority in the LRT project to Manggarai Station. Pramono stressed that accelerating the work will not compromise operational safety factors.

He made this statement in response to questions about public concerns regarding the LRT project, which is perceived as being rushed to commence operations in August.

“Safety for LRT and MRT is the top priority. Although it’s being accelerated, it’s not really rushed because it must be fully operational in August,” said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

Pramono explained that the August operational target was set from the beginning. Therefore, the current work stages are focused on testing before full public service begins.

“And that has indeed been established. That’s why commissioning is starting now,” he stated.

Commissioning is the system testing phase to ensure all technical aspects run safely before full operations. The testing covers train configurations to headway arrangements.

“What is called commissioning is testing. In testing, it includes how many train sets, what the headway is, that’s what’s being done now,” he clarified.

Pramono hopes that once all testing processes are complete, the LRT service to Manggarai Station can be inaugurated and fully operational as targeted in August 2026.

“I hope that in August, once inaugurated, it will operate fully,” he added.

The Jakarta LRT Phase 1B is known to have entered the testing and commissioning stage on 29-30 April 2026. Testing is conducted on a 3.6-kilometre track from Velodrome to Pasar Pramuka as part of preparations for operations.

This stage is a crucial process to ensure the entire system operates optimally and safely, from tracks, signalling, electricity, to operational integration before public use.

With construction progress exceeding 90%, the project undertaken by Waskita Karya is nearing operational status and is expected to carry tens of thousands of passengers per day, while improving connectivity and reducing congestion in Jakarta.
