JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - KAI Group recorded an increase in the number of passengers across various rail transport modes throughout the first quarter of 2026. These modes include the LRT Jabodebek, Commuter Line, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line, and the Whoosh high-speed train. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that this increase reflects the continuously developing urban mobility of the population. “Rail-based transport serves as a connector between regions and modes, making journeys feel more integrated from the starting point to the final destination,” said Anne in an official statement on Thursday (16/4/2026). This figure rose from 6.3 million customers in the same period the previous year, with growth reaching 22.1 per cent. The Whoosh high-speed train service recorded 1.4 million customers. This number increased from 1.3 million customers in the first quarter of 2025, or a growth of 4.07 per cent. The Jabodebek Commuter Line served 87.9 million customers in the first quarter of 2026. This figure rose from 82.1 million customers in the same period last year, or a growth of 7.14 per cent. “This volume serves as the main pillar of daily mobility for the population in urban areas,” explained Anne. The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line handled 634,000 customers in the first quarter of 2026. This increased from 517,166 customers in the first quarter of 2025, or a growth of 22.77 per cent. “This increase demonstrates the increasingly strong role of rail transport in supporting journeys to the airport,” explained Anne.
