Jakarta (ANTARA) - LRT Jabodebek security officers successfully foiled an attempted theft of LRT Jabodebek assets at Cawang Station on Wednesday night (12/8) at 9.50 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. A suspected perpetrator was apprehended by LRT Jabodebek officers.

The incident was detected through CCTV monitoring by officers, who noticed a severed grounding cable that appeared to be moving as if being pulled. Upon realising this, officers immediately combed the location and managed to thwart the action and secure the suspect.

‘The perpetrator, who was caught red-handed, was immediately detained and taken to Cawang Station for interrogation. Subsequently, officers handed him over to the East Jakarta Metro Police for further processing in accordance with applicable legal provisions,’ explained LRT Jabodebek Manager of Public Relations, Radhitya Mardika.

Following the incident, LRT Jabodebek Manager of Security, Lieutenant Colonel Pas Yoyok Priambodo, directly instructed LRT Jabodebek officers to also bring a number of pieces of evidence from the suspected perpetrator, including a motorcycle belonging to the perpetrator that was stored in the JPO E area, a mobile phone, and a wrench.

‘The alertness and coordination of officers in the field were key to the successful handling of the attempted theft case within the LRT Jabodebek environment. The team’s alertness is a form of effort to protect company assets while ensuring the safety and operational reliability of the LRT Jabodebek,’ said Lieutenant Colonel Pas Yoyok Priambodo.

For information, the grounding cable is part of the electrical protection system that helps channel electric current to the ground during certain conditions, thereby helping to protect equipment and maintain the safety of the electrical system.

‘KAI urges the public to help safeguard public facility assets, including those belonging to the LRT Jabodebek. Disruption to vital components like this has the potential to impact travel safety and smoothness, which ultimately harms the wider community as users,’ concluded Radhitya.
