LPSK urged to provide protection to Andrie Yunus, victim of acid attack
JAKARTA — A member of Commission XIII of the House of Representatives, Mafirion, has called on the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to provide protection to Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of KontraS (Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence), who became a victim of acid attack.
According to Mafirion, the acid attack on the human rights activist represents a danger alarm for democracy in Indonesia.
“Attacks on human rights activists are a form of real human rights violation. The state cannot allow this intimidation. LPSK must act quickly to provide emergency protection to the victim,” said Mafirion in a statement on Monday, 16 March 2026.
He emphasised that protection for Andrie Yunus should not stop at initial medical care, but must be closely monitored until the trial process ends.
“LPSK must ensure protection from the investigation stage through to trial. This is crucial so that law enforcement proceeds without intimidation and the victim does not feel alone facing this terror,” said Mafirion.
“Authorities must investigate thoroughly so there is a deterrent effect. There must not be any perception that attacking human rights defenders is something that can be done without legal consequences,” Mafirion added.
Previously, it was reported that the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of KontraS, was formally escalated to the investigation stage by police on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
“Yes, it has moved to investigation,” said Roby, when confirmed by Kompas.com on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
However, to date investigators remain focused on pursuing the perpetrator and have not yet named a suspect. Roby stated that the naming of a suspect can only occur after the case enters the investigation stage.
In the investigation process, police are currently tracing the identity of the perpetrator whose actions were captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras around the crime scene.
