LPSK Urged to Ensure Sexual Violence Victims at Pati Islamic Boarding School Are Protected from Intimidation
JAKARTA - A member of the House of Representatives Commission XIII, Fauqi Hapidekso, has urged the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to be proactive in protecting victims of sexual violence at an Islamic boarding school in Pati Regency, Central Java.
He stated that LPSK has the authority to provide protection without waiting for requests from the victims, based on Law No. 31 of 2014.
“The state must not be passive. LPSK must proactively provide comprehensive protection so that victims feel safe and do not become victims again. Victims often face trauma, fear, and potential intimidation from the perpetrators or their surroundings to silence them,” Fauqi said in his statement on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
They face strong power dynamics from the perpetrators, making them fearful of pressure.
“It is very ironic when victims are afraid to report because they worry about being blamed or facing pressure. Without strong protection, victims can suffer deeper psychological and social distress,” Fauqi said.
Therefore, LPSK must ensure the fulfilment of compensation rights for the victims who have lost access to education and their future due to becoming victims of sexual violence.
“Compensation is not just material assistance, but an important part of recovery and justice. The state must stand by the victims by providing psychological counselling, legal aid, and full economic rights,” Fauqi said.
Police have stated that they have gathered sufficient preliminary evidence after examining witnesses and processing the crime scene.
Pati Police Chief Commissioner Jaka Wahyudi mentioned that a kiai named Ashari was designated as a suspect on 28 April 2026 following a case review.
The case was actually reported as early as 2024, while the molestation of the victims is suspected to have occurred since 2020.
Although he has been designated as a suspect, the perpetrator has not yet been detained because he is considered cooperative during the examination process.
