Jakarta — Indonesia’s Commission III of the House of Representatives has demanded that police guarantee the security of the biological mother of NS (12), a boy who died allegedly following abuse by his stepmother, following revelations from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) that the child’s father is a gang member.

“I request that this mother’s security be guaranteed, sir. Take action against these gangsters, there is nothing to discuss, sir. How is it that until now there has been no enforcement action,” stated Habiburokhman, chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives, during a public hearing held in Jakarta on Monday.

This statement was directed at the head of Sukabumi Police Resort in West Java, AKBP Samian, who attended the hearing.

Commission III of the House of Representatives brought Lisnawati, the biological mother of NS, who was accompanied by her legal representative, as well as representatives from LPSK and the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).

Sri Suparyati, Deputy Head of LPSK, revealed that Lisna had submitted a protection request to the agency after experiencing terror threats following her report of the child’s biological father to police.

Lisna had reported her ex-husband to Sukabumi Police Resort on suspicion of child abandonment. Subsequently, according to Sri, Lisna was threatened by unknown parties to remain silent about her child’s death.

“From the numerous SMS and WhatsApp messages she received, Ibu Lisna has indeed suffered some depression, so during our assessment at LPSK we also conducted an evaluation of the threat level,” she explained.

LPSK has urged police to investigate the background of NS’s biological father. According to information obtained, NS allegedly suffered violence from childhood. Such violence was also allegedly experienced by Lisna during her marriage to her ex-husband.

“From being burned with cigarettes, then splashed with water, submerged in a bathtub — from childhood the victim experienced such frequent and ongoing acts of violence, and not only against NS, but also against Ibu Lisna,” she stated.

Additionally, Sri disclosed that Lisna’s ex-husband is a gang member. According to her, this requires police attention to investigate further regarding its connection to the threats Lisna has received.

“Ibu Lisna’s ex-husband happens to be a gang member which I believe also warrants further police attention, particularly given its connection to the threats frequently received by Ibu Lisna,” she said.

Currently, Lisna remains under LPSK’s emergency protection. To gather further information, LPSK will visit Lisna’s residence from today through Tuesday (3 March). Additionally, LPSK will coordinate with relevant local agencies regarding psychological services.

Regarding legal proceedings, LPSK is pushing law enforcement to examine this case more thoroughly. Not only as a case of a child’s death due to abuse by a stepmother, but also as a potential case of domestic violence.

“The background relating to domestic violence occurring within this family is substantial and deep-seated, and has been conducted since the victim was young, and was also perpetrated against the victim’s mother herself,” said Sri.

NS, a 12-year-old boy, died allegedly following abuse by his stepmother in Jampang Kulon, Sukabumi Regency. The victim died on 19 February 2026 with bruises and burn wounds on his body.

Sukabumi Police Resort has named Teni Ridha Shi (47), the victim’s stepmother, as a suspect for aggravated assault.
