JAKARTA – The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) has granted emergency protection to Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for Disappeared Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), who fell victim to a caustic acid attack by unknown assailants.

A protection request was submitted to LPSK on 13 March 2026 by the victim’s father on behalf of Andrie. In the submission, the family requested several protective service programmes, including procedural rights fulfilment, physical protection through continuous security, and medical assistance.

LPSK Vice-Chairwoman Sri Suparyati stated that LPSK immediately implemented emergency protection for the victim on 13–14 March 2026.

In its implementation, Sri said LPSK took several steps, including coordinating with Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) regarding medical treatment of the victim and maintaining intensive communication with the KontraS Executive Board.

Additionally, the agency conducted an initial assessment together with the victim’s family to identify further protection needs.

“Currently, physical protection has been provided through continuous security and monitoring by LPSK escort officers (panwal) whilst the victim undergoes treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital,” said Sri.

LPSK also opened opportunities for cooperation with regional government, the Indonesian Ministry of Health, and various related institutions to ensure the victim receives optimal medical treatment.

According to Sri, the emergency protection aims to provide a sense of security to the victim immediately after the criminal act.

“The LPSK team has also been deployed to conduct further investigation,” she said.

As part of its commitment to victim protection, LPSK is also urging law enforcement to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators of the acid attack.

Sri considered the rapid and thorough identification of the perpetrators to be important for delivering a sense of justice to the victim whilst preventing similar violent acts from recurring.

“This is expected to provide a sense of security for the public as well as human rights defenders who carry out advocacy work,” said Sri.

Earlier, it was reported that Andrie Yunus was attacked with caustic acid by two unknown individuals on the evening of Thursday, 12 March 2026.
