The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is taking a proactive approach to reach the family of the late Sutrimo to offer their rights to protection and legal assistance concerning the case of Sutrimo’s death, which is currently being handled by the police.

LPSK Deputy Chair Susilaningtias stated in Jakarta on Monday that the agency has coordinated with the Metro Jaya Police regarding the handling of the case and is ready to provide guidance to the family.

“LPSK has coordinated with the Metro Jaya Police regarding this case. Next, LPSK will proactively reach out to the family of the late Sutrimo first. It will then depend on whether the family submits a request for protection to LPSK or not,” said Susilaningtias.

If the family submits a formal request, LPSK will immediately conduct an in-depth review of the received application files and documents.

Regarding the family’s and witnesses’ eligibility for protection, Susilaningtias stated that she could not provide further assessment before a formal application file is available for review.

“Witnesses, victims, experts, or reporters can be granted emergency protection due to life-threatening situations, medical or psychological conditions requiring immediate attention, as well as the need for assistance in handling criminal cases,” she said.

She added that if the field team finds any of these criteria, the option of emergency protection can be immediately applied for the family of the late Sutrimo.

The Metro Jaya Police explained that they have taken statements from five witnesses to investigate the cause of death of a man named Sutrimo, which was deemed unnatural in front of a clinic in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta.

“So far, investigators have taken statements from five witnesses,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, when met in Jakarta on Friday (31/7).
