Palembang (ANTARA) - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) has recorded providing approximately 13,000 protection services to witnesses and victims from January to early September 2026.

LPSK Chairman Achmadi, speaking in Palembang on Thursday, stated that this figure represents the latest data on the services provided by the agency to witnesses and victims. He noted that while the number is high, there remains a segment of the public in need of protection services.

LPSK provides various forms of protection to witnesses and victims, ranging from physical protection to assistance throughout the judicial process. In addition to receiving protection requests, Achmadi said that LPSK takes proactive steps in handling serious cases that have gained significant public attention, particularly when situations are still developing.

In urgent conditions, LPSK also provides emergency protection by deploying special teams, which includes providing medical assistance to victims as required. Achmadi expressed his appreciation to the press for their role in monitoring and reporting on various cases that require assistance for witnesses and victims.

He added that collaboration with local governments, law enforcement agencies, and civil society organisations is necessary to expand the reach of witness and victim protection.

Meanwhile, the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru, stated that LPSK services need to be more widely introduced to the public so that they are aware of the available protection access. “This must be brought to the community. New programmes are not yet widely known and serve as a service product that can be a form of good deed,” said Herman Deru.

He stated that the South Sumatra Provincial Government is ready to optimise the role of agencies down to the regional level to support the expansion of information and public access to witness and victim protection services.
