LPSK Guarantees Protection for Justice Collaborators in Dadan and Silmy Karim Cases
The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) has stated its readiness to provide protection to witnesses, informants, experts, and justice collaborators (JC) to support the comprehensive investigation of ongoing legal cases. This declaration follows the exposure of alleged corruption in the management of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme, involving former Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Dadan Hindayana and others, by the Attorney General’s Office. It also pertains to the alleged extortion regarding stay permits for foreign nationals, involving former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
LPSK Vice Chairman Susilaningtias stated that uncovering corruption requires the courage of parties who possess knowledge of unlawful acts to provide testimony to law enforcement. She emphasised that the state must ensure adequate protection to allow the legal process to proceed effectively without pressure, threats, or intimidation. Susilaningtias noted that the alleged corruption in the MBG programme carries significant public interest, as the programme is designed to support the nutritional needs of Indonesian children.
LPSK reminded the public that corruption is a criminal offence where witnesses, experts, and informants are entitled to protection under Law Number 31 of 2014. Furthermore, in the case involving the Directorate General of Immigration, Susilaningtias mentioned that suspects, including Silmy Karim, have the right to apply as justice collaborators provided they meet the legal requirements. The role of a JC is considered vital in helping law enforcement uncover the structure of the crime, fund flows, and other involved parties.
LPSK also highlighted the potential for victims in the immigration permit extortion case. If foreign nationals have suffered losses due to these practices, they have the right to seek compensation as part of the crime victim’s recovery process. The Attorney General’s Office has named former Head of the BGN, Dadan Hindayana, along with Sony Sonjaya and Lodewyk Pusung, as suspects in the MBG programme corruption case. Meanwhile, the KPK has named Silmy Karim and seven others, including former officials from the Directorate General of Immigration, as suspects in the immigration document extortion and gratification case.
