LPSK and Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Accompany Victim of Alleged Domestic Worker Exploitation in Central Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) together with the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Choiri Fauzi, is strengthening support for victims of alleged domestic worker exploitation and human trafficking offences in the Bendungan Hilir area, Central Jakarta. This is being carried out through legal protection, psychological assistance, and the submission of restitution claims. Deputy Chair of LPSK, Sri Suparyati, in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday, said that her agency had taken proactive steps by reaching out to the victim with the initials R at RSAL Mintohardjo hospital alongside Minister PPPA Arifah Choiri Fauzi and police officers from the Metro Jakarta Central Police Resort. “Legal protection is the priority because there are indications of restorative justice efforts in this case,” said Sri Suparyati. She explained that to date, there are two protection requests submitted to LPSK, one from victim R and one from the family of D, the victim who died in the case. The forms of protection requested include the fulfilment of procedural rights, psychological assistance, and restitution. According to Sri, the restitution submission process is being carried out in stages because it requires in-depth assessment of the victims’ and family’s conditions to identify components of losses that can be claimed as compensation. As a result of the incident, one 16-year-old victim died, while the other victim with initials R (30) suffered severe injuries and fractures in several parts of her body, including the spine, which could potentially cause paralysis. In the handling process, LPSK is also coordinating with Jala PRT, the DKI Jakarta Department of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control (DPPAPP), and the Metro Jakarta Central Police Resort. Based on the coordination results, the victim is suspected of frequently experiencing verbal violence and restrictions on freedom by her employer, leading her to decide to escape. LPSK also obtained information that the employer’s family had met with the victim’s side and provided a sum of money for medical costs and other forms of responsibility. Meanwhile, Minister PPPA Arifah Choiri Fauzi appreciated LPSK’s swift actions in providing protection to the victims and hopes that the legal process can run optimally. Arifah also hopes that the support for the victims can provide long-term benefits while creating a deterrent effect against perpetrators of exploitation as well as domestic worker agents who violate the law.
