LPS rates Destry Damayanti as 'complete package' for BI Governor

Jakarta - The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), Anggito Abimanyu, has assessed that Destry Damayanti is a figure who possesses the ‘complete package’ as the sole candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI).

“So (Destry Damayanti) is someone who has a complete background. A complete package, yes. So I am quite confident that cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, with LPS, and OJK (Financial Services Authority) will be without issue,” said Anggito when met in Jakarta on Monday.

Destry previously worked at the Fiscal and Monetary Analysis Agency (BAKM) of the Ministry of Finance from 1992 to 1997. She then served as a Member of the Board of Commissioners of LPS for the 2015-2019 period. Subsequently, Destry served as Senior Deputy Governor of BI until she was appointed as Acting Governor of BI.

The process must still go through the fit and proper test stages at Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). Because of this, Anggito was reluctant to pre-empt the appointment process. “So hopefully it goes smoothly and a definitive Governor of Bank Indonesia is soon appointed,” he said.

President Prabowo Subianto has sent a Presidential Letter (Surpres) to the DPR RI to propose the name of Destry Damayanti as the definitive candidate for BI Governor.
