LPS Message to Youth: AI Tempts Spending, We Must Maintain Control
Young Indonesians are currently facing the role of increasingly convenient technology for shopping. However, this convenience should not lead to a failure to control spending according to actual needs.
This was a key message delivered during the Lampung Financial Festival 2026 by the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), Farid Azhar Nasution.
“Do not let technology control our financial decisions. We must remain in control,” said Farid while opening the Lampung Financial Festival 2026 on Saturday (5/9/2026).
On this occasion, Farid conveyed three important messages for the younger generation to manage their finances wisely. First, he encouraged young people to make it a habit to shop according to their needs. He noted that shopping based on necessity is vital so that earned income can be saved for future requirements.
“Make it a habit to set aside, not just what is left over. Prioritise saving as soon as we receive money,” he said.
Secondly, he advised young people to shop according to needs rather than mere desires, especially amidst technological developments that facilitate easy shopping. He emphasised that humans must maintain control over their financial decisions rather than allowing technology to dictate them.
“Remember, the algorithms and artificial intelligence in our gadgets are constantly learning about what we like, and then tempting us to buy,” he remarked.
The final message was for the younger generation to continue striving to build intangible savings: character, knowledge, and relationships. According to him, character is closely linked to spiritual capital, knowledge represents human capital, and healthy relationships constitute social capital.
“All three are assets whose value will continue to accompany us throughout our lives,” Farid concluded.
