The Chairman of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), Anggito Abimanyu, shared his personal experience of encouraging his family to switch to sharia banking during a talkshow and halal bihalal event organised by the Sharia Economy and Finance Forum Group (FG) of PP-ISEI 2026 at BSI Tower in Jakarta on Tuesday (14/4/2026). He revealed that he has been a customer of sharia banks since 2004 and has never switched since. Moreover, all income he receives from various sources is always transferred to sharia accounts. “I have migrated my life to sharia banking. Even though my salary is from elsewhere, I always transfer it to sharia banking,” he stated. Not only that, Anggito also urged his family to do the same. “My entire family, I have moved their financial management to sharia banking,” he said. According to him, this step is a tangible manifestation of adherence to sharia principles. He stressed that compliance must be the primary foundation before considering benefits. “Sharia banking must start from compliance. Do not compromise it with matters of benefit or return. If compliance has entered the heart, profits will come,” Anggito remarked. On that occasion, he also touched on the development of the national sharia banking industry, which he assessed as continuously showing positive trends. One of them is evident from the significant growth in assets of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) since the merger of three state-owned sharia banks in 2021. “Previously, the total was around Rp200 trillion. Now it is above Rp400 trillion,” he said. He described this achievement as a success story that can serve as a lesson for the industry. Looking ahead, he sees opportunities for growth still open, including from plans for consolidation of other sharia banks that could enlarge the industry’s scale. Anggito also emphasised that sharia economy is a blend of economic science and Islamic law. Therefore, the aspect of compliance becomes the main differentiator as well as the strength in that system. By starting from the family, he hopes that public awareness of the sharia economy can grow stronger and not solely oriented towards profits.
