Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Anggito Abimanyu, the Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Lembaga Penjamin Simpanan (LPS), emphasised the importance of financial literacy amid rapid technological developments and high investment interest. This way, optimism about investment can be directed and not turn into speculation. As such, more and more young people are investing in stock instruments, retail bonds, fintech, crypto and digital assets. Anggito said Indonesian retail investment growth continues to rise year after year, with a growing dominance of young people, university students and pupils. ‘This is a positive signal. But optimism without literacy can turn into speculation,’ he said when opening the Jogjakarta Financial Festival at the Jogja Expo Centre (JEC) on Friday (21/5/2026). He also stressed that education must move faster than market euphoria. Anggito spoke about the paradox of Indonesia’s financial sector. ‘We are entering an era when money moves faster than humans’ understanding of financial risk itself,’ he said. According to him, artificial intelligence (AI) is starting to replace many business models. Digital financial transactions happen extremely quickly, in seconds. Financial investment products are growing and becoming more diverse, providing benefits. ‘But at the same time, the resilience of literacy has not grown as fast as the industry’s development. This is the paradox of Indonesia’s financial sector today,’ Anggito said.
