Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) has revealed that the number of inactive accounts nationwide is increasing in volume. However, the percentage growth is declining annually.

LPS Commissioner Council Chairman, Anggito Abimanyu, did not disclose the exact number of such accounts, deeming it “confidential.”

Nevertheless, Anggito stated that LPS, along with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), is monitoring the rise in inactive accounts. He explained that the criteria for an “inactive” account involve a certain balance remaining untouched for one year, differing from the PPATK’s three-month criterion.

“Inactive accounts have the potential to be misused,” Anggito said during a working meeting with House of Representatives Commission XI, on Thursday (9/4/2026).

Referring to his presentation materials, inactive accounts grew by 9.52% year-on-year (yoy) throughout 2023. The growth rate rose to 10.18% yoy in 2024, then fell to 9.23% for 2025.

Despite this, the graph shows the overall number of accounts continues to increase each year from 2023 to 2025.

This poses a challenge for LPS, which has received instructions from President Prabowo to ensure every citizen has a bank account. Anggito said LPS will realise this directive within the next three years.

LPS targets growth in the number of accounts, particularly among the productive age group of 15-70 years, aiming for 5% annual growth over the next five years.

Meanwhile, Anggito conveyed that the total number of Indonesians without accounts is 49.7 million. Of this figure, 15.3 million are productive-age residents targeted by LPS and OJK, according to Anggito.
