LPS Chief Denies Indonesians Are 'Eating Into Their Savings'
Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) Anggito Abimanyu has denied the notion that the public is experiencing a phenomenon of ‘eating into their savings’ or eroding their deposits to meet daily needs. According to Anggito, all deposit groups, from nominal amounts below Rp100 million to above Rp5 billion, are still recording growth. This shows that public funds in banks continue to increase and support economic activity. “No, everything is still growing. Both savings below Rp100 million and those above Rp5 billion are all growing and moving,” Anggito said when asked by reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex on Monday (27/7/2026). He said this indicates growth in deposits across all groups. “So this shows that the circulation of funds entering the bank actually supports economic activities, especially the real sector,” he said. On that occasion, Anggito also stated that liquidity in the economy is still showing a positive trend. This means that broad money supply (M2) is still experiencing an increase. “An increase, there is an increase,” Anggito said briefly.
