LPS Begins Paying Claims to Customers of BPR Sungai Rumbai in West Sumatra
Padang (ANTARA) - The Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) has begun paying out deposit claims to 1,909 customers of Bank Perkreditan Rakyat (BPR) Sungai Rumbai in Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra, after the Financial Services Authority (OJK) revoked the bank’s licence.
“In the first phase, LPS has allocated Rp1.81 billion to customers who meet the guarantee criteria,” said Director of the Secretariat Group at LPS, Damaiyanti Sakti, in a written statement received in Padang on Tuesday.
The funds will be disbursed to the 1,909 customers of BPR Sungai Rumbai via the BRI Sungai Rumbai Unit and the Pinang Makmur Unit, which have been appointed by LPS. This acceleration is crucial to maintaining public trust in the banking sector, she stated.
“We are acting swiftly so that customers do not have to wait long. This first-phase payment has been realised within five working days,” she added.
“Customers are urged to promptly process their claims by bringing original documents such as ID cards, passbooks, and other proof of deposits,” she advised.
Meanwhile, one customer of BPR Sungai Rumbai, Yuda Sukarna, admitted to initially panicking upon learning that his savings could not be withdrawn following the OJK’s licence revocation on 7 April 2026.
“The family panicked because the savings could not be withdrawn. We were confused about what to do,” he revealed.
“Alhamdulillah, after learning about the LPS guarantee, we felt much calmer. The process was quick, and now our funds can be accessed,” he said.
